Drinking & Driving: The Aftermath
Year: 1999
Drunk driver slammed into the back of my vehicle.
It took a year to learn to walk again, several surgeries and numerous other medical problems that still linger today.
This accident changed my life, de-railed my education plans, forced me to abandon my career goals and sent my parents into a level of debt from which they ever recovered.
Today: 2013
The accident caused problems that could not have been foreseen. Infertility and issues sustaining pregnancies, repeat leg surgeries due to problems with initial hardware implanted to put right femur back together, lifelong need for synthroid due to removal of thyroid due to thyroid storm caused by blow to neck, daily battle with PTSD and anxiety when it comes to driving and these are just a few examples of the aftermath.
The Driver:
The drunk driver left with an injured hand and a ticket.
